I finally got around to teaching myself some stuff about my Roland’s sequencer. I’ve had that thing for years now, and I still haven’t learned how to do everything it can do yet. Once I get something solid down, I’ll put it up. Still no real time for any serious recording.
I also made a few more songs on my ds. If you have a DS, I highly recommend Nitrotracker. It’s pretty nice having a sampler/tracker that fits in your pocket. Here are those songs:

Whistlething: MP3 - XM - Random samples from the kids’ $10 keyboard.
FoodFight: MP3 - XM - I guess I must have been hungry.
Kidpower: MP3 - XM - This is a song the kids made.
dood: MP3 - XM - I like this one, it was fun to make. Only 5 samples, I pulled the percussion from a steel plate and a garbage can, the other three are my voice.
House: MP3 - XM - This is a song about a haunted house.
Pipe Dream: MP3 - XM - This one was mostly samples from around the welding shop. I’m not sure if it’s finished or not, but I haven’t touched it in awhile, so I’m done with it now.
You are - in four movements.: MP3 - XM - I think I lost where I was going with this one, at some point. It’s silly though, and I like it. The samples are from my voice, a cordless drill, let’s say a vase, an open strum on an out of tune guitar, and the kids’ musical sit-n-spin. The sit-n-spin is awesome. It plays 8 or so different songs, very low tech, but the songs on it are sweet. One sounds like it’s right out of River City Ransom.

Funny review of Frontalot

I found this on Hipster, Please! this morning. It’s a short article about MC Frontalot by someone who is (rather painfully) far outside of the Front’s usual demographic. A choice quote:

Another example on “Secrets from the Future”: “You better PGP the .rar, because so far they ain’t impressed/You better take the .pgp and print the hex out of it, scan that into a TIFF.” It’s too much work to get that joke. Don’t force me to drag over the office IT guy: He’s still teaching me the voice-mail system.

I think that about sums it up. If you need an “IT guy” to teach you how to use a telephone, Nerdcore probably isn’t for you.

I’ve finished migrating all of the projects from the old bananafunk.com site over to this one. You can find them by clicking on the “Bananafunk” button at the top of every page. As far as I can tell, every project that was on the original site is now on this one with two exceptions; Anything that was in the Code or Video categories is gone. There was only one project in Video (that wasn’t finished), and the handful of projects in the Code section are outdated or were never completed. I don’t think anyone will miss them. If I’m wrong about that, leave me some hate mail and I’ll put them up.

I tried to preserve as much of the old files as I could, but some things did wander off over the last few years. Don’t worry, all of the uploads are still here, but there are a couple of projects that the Project Vision and Author files were missing. I left those fields blank when I couldn’t figure it out myself, so feel free to drop me a line if you have a project here that isn’t properly attributed.

I’ve been asked by a couple people if I am planning on enabling uploads again. I didn’t really think about that when I decided to put all of this together, but if there is significant interest, I can look into it. Let me know.

With all of that said, have fun strolling down memory lane. If you have any problems, questions, or suggestions, this is the place for them.

I’ve updated and filled out a lot of the pages and content on the site. The Music page has a few subpages now with streamable links to my 60 Seconds and Musical Vomit albums, I also put some stuff in the Projects sections. I’m currently working on getting all of the old Bananafunk content online. When I’m done, it will be located at the “Bananafunk” link above. If anyone has any comments or suggestions, feel free to leave them here, or shoot me an e-mail.

Dann’s 5th Birthday

Dann turned 5 on Wednesday this week. We took him to the mega playland hidden in the Carlson Ice Arena in Rockford. That place is awesome. If you are under 250lbs, and less than 6′ tall, I highly recommend checking it out. If you are outside of those dimensions, it might not be as fun for you.

I jumped head first into the playland and chased the boys and Kierra around for about an hour or so. Here are some adorable pictures.

So I’m just putting some place holders here until I get the rest of the site up and going and more personalized. Every site has one of these posts, if you dig back far enough in the archives. This one is superior to the others, however, in that I have a small bootleg image of a George Bush butt plug on mine.
